Seven Acres Overton: A £3.5 million contract with Bargate Homes

Just over a month into the New Year, and our Mackoy groundworks team has already started a second new residential groundworks contract, this time in Overton, Hampshire, working on behalf of Bargate Homes.

The £3.5 million contract will see our operatives on site at Overton for a period of 24 months, while we work to complete the groundworks infrastructure for a new community of 55 high-spec Bargate Homes. Split into plots of two, three and four bedroom houses, the new development at Sapley Lane will add to the housing stock of one of Hampshire’s most picturesque villages.

As well as completing the initial earthworks, which our team moved in to make a start on just ahead of Christmas, our contract with Bargate Homes also calls on our experience in foundation development and oversites, in addition to laying all the underground pipework which will provide essential drainage facilities to each new property. We’ll also be utilising our soft and hard landscaping skills to help shape the communal green spaces in the development, which will further add to the character of the Seven Acres site, as well as developing all the internal roads, pavements, and driveways to complete the external areas to planning approvals.

Nestled between Basingstoke, Andover and Whitchurch, Overton Village is located in a charming rural part of Hampshire, with the rolling countryside enveloping the village and the River Test just one mile away. A variety of local pubs and restaurants occupy Overton Village centre, all of which will be on the doorstep for future Seven Acres residents to enjoy. The area is also rich with outdoor activities and sporting pursuits, perfect for family life, with a village football pitch and Skate Park, as well as two golf courses nearby.

Overton Village Station offers direct rail links into London Waterloo, making the Bargate Homes development a prime target for commuters who need easy access into the city in just over one hour. While road links connect Overton to Basingstoke, Andover, and Whitchuch in under 30-minutes, opening up the Seven Acres site to those that work within these local catchments.

Prices for the finished properties are yet to be revealed, and one of the next tasks our team will be taking on, once earthworks are finalised, is the marketing suite that Bargate Homes will use to engage prospective house buyers at the Sapley Lane site. The homes themselves have been mindfully designed in keeping with the character of properties already found in the local Overton area, with feature details such as pointed rooflines and gothic architectural influences helping the new development to blend in beautifully with the existing Overton Village property stock.

The Overton contract marks the second time in recent months that Bargate Homes has appointed Mackoy to complete the groundworks for a new residential development taking place in Hampshire, with our team previously on site for the homebuilder in Medstead. This contract similarly called on our full scope of groundworks services to help create a mix of chalet-style bungalows and semi-detached houses that now sit on the 6.61 acre Beechlands Road site. The development, which is now approaching completion, is already 90% reserved, with homebuyers quick to appreciate the site’s prime woodland location on the outskirts of Medstead.

Bargate Homes was established in 2006, just a few years ahead of Mackoy (we launched in 2011) and, like us, the house builder has grown rapidly, building innovative high-quality homes sustainably, in key locations. Today the homebuilder has created circa 60 new community developments, spread throughout the South Coast, in and around Hampshire, under the guidance of Chairman and Bargate Homes founder Gerard Price.
