At Mackoy we specialise in groundworks and civil engineering. Working with the UK's leading house builders to deliver groundworks infrastructure including site investigations, earthworks, and foundations, retaining walls, roads, recreational spaces, sewers and drainage. Together with highway schemes and commercial contracts for the construction sector. You can review our full scope of services in more detail on our services page.
We have three offices in Chandlers Ford and a further one coming soon in Nursling, but our groundworks contracts aren't restricted to Hampshire alone. We're also on site for major housing developers in Dorset, Berkshire, Surrey, Oxfordshire and Sussex. And with 300+ groundworkers working with us locally we're more than capable of expanding our groundworks services into new territories in other areas of Britain.
Sadly no. We specialise in large-scale groundworks infrastructure and civil engineering for commercial and residential developments. Our contract values range from £250,000 to £10,000,000+ while our clients typically include national homebuilders such as Barratt, Redrow, Bloor Homes, Bellway and Persimmon.
Please email tenders@mackoy.co.uk, call 02380 767 166 Option 1 or alternatively use our contact us form and someone will be in touch.
Specifically for groundworks labour only supply, we use direct engagement and have sufficient contracts of supply where needed. We are not actively seeking open approaches from recruitment agencies. For new bona fide sub-contractors (Labour and Material) or material suppliers, please email supplychain@mackoy.co.uk with an introduction, company services, geographical areas of service, rates etc., which will be reviewed by our procurement team.
Yes. We're an NHBC accredited groundworks contractor so any work we carry out is guaranteed for up to 10 years under NHBC warranty. The clients we work with also have a defect period of between 12 to 36 months.
We have an exhaustive list of industry and trade accreditations awarded to us by the leading regulatory bodies and associations in construction and safety. These include SAFEMARK, CHAS and NHBC, as well as SIPP, CSCS, CPCS and COMS. A full list of our accreditations is available to view here.
Yes. Groundworks is an outdoors occupation so our operatives are fully prepared for the reality of working outside in all seasons. Only in extreme cases of inclement weather, that poses a direct threat to the safety of our site staff, will we down tools. All site gangs are kitted with pumps and generators to ensure foundations are water-free before being in-filled with concrete in rainy conditions. While in winter all concrete to site has to be agreed prior to arrival, as temperatures need to be at least two degrees centigrade for concrete to be laid. We also take care to protect floors with covers during frost and avoid the use of road sub base (stone) in sub-zero temperatures. We've also written an in-depth article on how adverse weather impacts the construction industry.
Because we wouldn't settle for anything less. We've worked hard to build our reputation as the leading groundworks supplier to the UK's premier property developers. A benchmark that's built on the strict quality controls we measure our workmanship against and our quality assurance system is constantly monitored as well as expanding to cover more areas all the time. Maintaining quality, especially during busy times, is key to Mackoy. It's why the likes of Barratt, Redrow, CALA, Bellway and Persimmon trust us with their groundworks infrastructure. You only have to read our testimonials to appreciate the excellent standard of our work.
We use a combination of site plans provided by the utilities board together with CAT scans and industry standard cable detector equipment to identify the location of any live services before excavation work begins.
Not for us. We have the plant to excavate all types of soil and earth. From EC140E Volvo Crawler Excavators and Hydrema closed cab dumper trucks, to Air Picks and Riddle buckets, which make light work of excavating in stony or hard ground. We're also adding Screeners to our excavation plant in the New Year too and where possible we try and recycle any excavated material, such as sand or stone, to keep costs down for our clients.
We provide a full muckaway service for any groundworks we undertake as well as updating all site waste registers internally at our offices with certifications. So we can accurately keep track of where all waste materials come from and where they go. Most clients require SWMP (Site Waste Management Plans) for their own project records, which we provide prior to works commencing. We also use this information for any re-measuring we're contracted to do commercially.
No we're not a house builder. We work with the UK's leading house builders and commercial clients to provide essential groundworks infrastructure for new developments in Britain. As well as highway works. Our clients include Barratt, Bellway, CALA and Redrow, and our contract values range from £250,000 to over £10 million. Take a look at our Services page to discover more about the comprehensive groundworks infrastructure packages we provide. Or see our Projects page to learn more about the groundworks contracts we've helped to deliver.
We employ a Mackoy Site Manager at every location who's on site 5 days a week to oversee the schedule of works day-to-day. Our SHEQ team also inspect our sites on a weekly or fortnightly rotation, conducting spot checks to make sure our work complies with quality controls. We also seek client sign-off at each stage of completion, plus one of our Mackoy Directors will also come to site while work is in progress.
All of our operatives hold a valid CSCS card that they carry with them at all times on site. Those that require CPCS specific accreditation have this too. Our plant drivers all hold UK HGV C1 licences and we also have an in-house training programme to ensure all Mackoy operatives are up to speed in the safe handling of our tools, plant and machinery.
We regularly review and monitor our processes in line with best practice, most recently updating our training on:
Yes as part of our groundworks infrastructure packages for residential developers we provide full provisions for sewer infrastructure including manhole covers and pumping stations. We can also assist with private drainage solutions including drain cleaning and sewer treatment plants. During tender stage we help our clients review their drainage requirements to ensure we're providing the most effective solution in each case. Helping to eliminate unnecessary works and significantly reduce costs for our clients. We also have a quality assurance system in place for all our drainage work, including testing the infrastructure prior to sign-off.
No. We provide all required plant, machinery, and tools needed to complete our groundworks infrastructure on site. This cost is automatically included in the quote we provide when we tender for a contract. All of this resource is from within our own in-house plant and vehicle fleet, which includes hi-spec dumpers, excavators, rollers, and haulage HGVs, among other specialist groundworks machinery.
Yes. We provide our own Mackoy Site Manager for the duration of every contract we undertake. Their role is to oversee our groundworkers and act as the main client liaison on the ground. Ensuring works are completed to the latest technical site drawings and to daily targets. On larger contracts we provide multiple Site Managers and a Project Manager to oversee the entire schedule of works. This ensures that our clients and operatives always have a direct point of contact daily and is an integral part of monitoring quality and managing resource on our worksites. In fact the majority of sites we work on have more than one Site Manager.
